Shubhra murder: 19 accused including Mayor Rafiqul in court

Gouripur Municipality Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam, Mailakanda Union Chairman Riyad Uzzaman Riyad and 19 other accused have been presented in the court, in the murder case of General Secretary of Upazila Awami Swechchhasebak League Masudur Rahman Shubhra in Gouripur, Mymensingh.

They were brought to the court from the jail at around 10:40 am on Monday (October 10). Judge Monir Kamal of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 will announce the verdict in this case.

Last Thursday (October 6), Judge Monir Kamal of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 fixed the day for the judgment after presenting arguments from both sides.

There are 19 accused in the case, including the present mayor of Gouripur municipality, Syed Rafiqul Islam. The other accused are- Upazila BNP unit joint convener and Mailakanda Union chairman Riyad Uzzaman Riyad, Syed Taufiqul Islam, Syed Mazaharul Islam Jewel, Masud Parvez Karjon, joint general secretary of Gouripur Municipal Chhatra Dal, Shakib Ahmed Reza, Members of North District Swechchhasebak Dal Mozammel Haque, Khairul Islam, Chhatra Dal worker Rifat, Md Abu Hanifa, secretary of North District Volunteer Party, Jahangir Alam, Juba Dal worker Mojibur Rahman, Chhatra Dal worker Shariatullah alias Sumon and Judo Dal workers Russell Mia, Kamal Mia, Moin Uddin, Shariful Islam, Ruhul Amin and Shajahan Mia.

On October 17, 2020, miscreants hacked Shubhra to death at Madhyabazar Pan Mahal in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh at around 10 pm. Later, when the victim's younger brother Abidur Rahman filed a murder case at Gouripur police station, the district detective police filed a charge sheet against 19 people.
