A seminar on ‘Islamic Law and International Humanitarian
Law’ was held at Islamic University in Kushtia on Wednesday.
IU Al-fiqh and Legal Studies department and International
Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) jointly organized the event at the IQAC
conference room on the campus around 10:30 am.
Dr. Mohammed Nasir Uddin, chairman of Al-Fiqh and Legal
studies department, presided over the program while IU Vice-chancellor Prof
Shaikh Abdus Salam was present as a chief guest. IU Pro Vice-chancellor Prof M
Mahbubur Rahman, treasurer Prof M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya and IU Law faculty dean
Prof Sayeda Siddika attended here as the
special guest. Mr. Shariful Islam,
affairs advisor of Bangladesh ICRC attended here as a keynote speaker.
IU proctor Prof Jahangir Hossain, transport administrator
Prof Anowar Hossain, legal advisor of ICRC Mansur Saleh and more than 20
teachers of various department of the university presented here, among others.
Speaking as chief guest, IU VC Dr. Salam said, “we have to
be more humane and careful in applying the law so that no innocent person is
punished by the law.’’
