Awami League government does not waste a single money: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the Awami League government does not waste a single money. Every money is spent for the benefit and welfare of the people. No one withdrew money from the reserve.

The Prime Minister said, they (BNP) always have such fear in their minds. Their leader Tarek Zia was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined 20 crores in a money laundering case. He is currently a fugitive. People who practice money laundering, money is everything for them.

She said these things at the inauguration of Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project on Saturday (November 12). She inaugurated the construction work of the project through video conference from Ganabhaban. Awami League General Secretary, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader presided over the opening ceremony. Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Li Ziming spoke at the event.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, the opposition party often asks, "Where did the reserve money go?". Along with this, they try to run a propaganda all over Bangladesh. I want to tell them, when BNP was in power, the reserve was only 2.9 billion US dollars. From 2001 to 2008, it grew to just over 5 billion. From that point we were able to increase the reserve to 48 billion. Communication, travel, import everything was almost stopped due to corona virus. When the communication opened up our imports, especially the corona virus and the Ukraine-Russia war caused inflation. The impact of the recession that has occurred has come to our country. Today we have to meet the import expenses from the reserve money, besides we have given vaccines free of cost. Corona test was also done at free of charge. Not even the developed countries in the world has provided free testing and vaccines. We bought vaccines with cash and then got some donations.

He further said, food prices have increased all over the world, fuel prices have increased, edible oil, wheat, maize, pulses, everything we have to import has increased in price. We are producing rice, we are self-sufficient in food, but yet sometimes we have to import some. Rice had to be imported when crops were destroyed by floods. Whatever we have spent, it has been done for the welfare of the people, in the interests of the people.
