Canada crash: Body of deceased students to be sent home 24 Feb

The body of one of the three Bangladeshi students killed in a recent road crash in Canada involving will be sent home on February 24, according to the Bangladesh mission there.

Shahriar Khan, Angela Baroi and Arian Deepta were killed and noted singer Kumar Biswajit's son, Nibir Kumar, sustained critical injuries in the crash on Highway 427 southbound ramp to Dundas Street West in Ontario at 11 pm local time on February 13.

The Bangladesh High Commission and the Bangladesh Consulate in Toronto offered their deep condolences to the families of the deceased students and prayed for the salvation of their departed souls and also for the rapid and full recovery of the injured student in a press release issued Friday.

Upon learning about the fatal accident both the high commissioner and the consul general in Toronto got in touch with members of the Bangladesh community in the area and also with the families of the students. 

High Commissioner Khalilur Rahman immediately advised the consul general and other officers and staff at the consulate to be engaged with the family members and the hospital authorities to ensure that all possible necessary support was provided to deal with the situation, reads the release.

The high commissioner spoke with the families of some of the deceased students and also with the parents of the critically injured student who is now recuperating in a Toronto hospital. 

He was informed by the family that the condition of Nibir Kumar was stable and improving.

Meanwhile, the families of the three deceased students were assured that the mission and the consulate in Toronto would provide the necessary support to transport the bodies of the deceased students. 

The high commissioner also advised the country and station managers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in Toronto to facilitate the process as well as to arrange for tickets on a priority basis for the family members who would like to come to Toronto or who would accompany the bodies to Bangladesh by Biman flights to and from Toronto, if and as required.

The consulate is also in touch with the two funeral homes in Toronto that are making arrangements along with the hospital authorities for issuing death certificates as well as other necessary documentation for the transportation of the bodies of the three deceased students. 

The families of the deceased students were reassured that the consulate would issue the necessary documents as soon as the death certificates and other necessary papers were received from the hospital and the funeral homes. 

The families were also informed and assured that the high commission and the consulate in Toronto could be contacted even after office hours and on the weekend, if necessary.
