"Crude people in important charge not desirable"

Bangla Insider: There have been allegations against Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary-General of BNP, as being a 'broker' for the party. How do you view the dissatisfaction among BNP workers towards the senior leadership?

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar: It's not unusual for party workers and supporters to have various opinions. This is not abnormal. However, those in leadership positions have to consider a lot, think about various issues, and analyze the consequences of any decision they make. The impact of a decision, whether positive or negative, has to be thought through thoroughly. That's not something the worker or supporter of the BNP think about. So, this kind of situation can happen. I don't think it's an issue. Such things happen in every party. Those in leadership roles in the BNP may have different opinions and attitudes.

Bangla Insider: BNP is claiming that Begum Khaleda Zia needs to go abroad for advanced medical treatment. On the other hand, the government is saying that she is receiving adequate medical care in the country. What are your thoughts on this issue?

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar: I don't consider this an issue for protest. Although I don't necessarily support taking treatment abroad, the right to receive medical care, the right to life, is paramount. It is the most fundamental right. Whether she is guilty or not, every citizen has the right to receive proper medical care. The government needs to pay attention to this.

Bangla Insider: Even though there are opportunities for advanced medical treatment in the country, people often seek medical care abroad. What is the reason behind our dependence on foreign countries for healthcare?

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar: We tend to seek treatment abroad for various reasons. Important individuals often go abroad for routine check-ups. Even minor illnesses are treated abroad. Begum Khaleda Zia, as a senior citizen and a former prime minister, is entitled to this privilege. Her right to life, as well as her rights as a citizen, are of paramount importance. It's not about someone's rights being better or more important. It's about basic human values, humanity, compassion for others, and recognizing the rights of individuals. If we don't have these, then we reject the characteristics of society. Justice, law, and all that are based on the rights of life. It's the most fundamental right. Our constitution explicitly mentions this in Article 32 - the right to life and personal liberty. Khaleda Zia's case concerns the highest rights. Whether someone is guilty or not, every citizen has the right to proper medical care. The government should pay attention to this.

Bangla Insider: Information Minister Murad Hassan recently made derogatory remarks through social media. How do you view his comments as a political analyst?

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar: He has made indecent, improper, and obscene remarks that are not appropriate for anyone. It's not something one would expect from a decent person. What he said is not acceptable in any civilized society and also crude people in important charge not desirable. He is not qualified to be a member of parliament.These comments are not acceptable at all.
