Renowned academic and former freedom fighter, Prof. Dr. Syed Modasser Ali, was the keynote speaker at the 2nd Convocation of the University of South Asia, where he delivered an inspiring address to the graduating class. Dr. Ali emphasized the importance of education, gratitude to the nation's founding leaders, and the responsibility of the graduates to contribute to the development of a "Smart Bangladesh."
In his speech, Dr. Ali began by expressing his gratitude to
his esteemed teacher, Prof. M. A. Matin, who founded the University of South
Asia. He acknowledged the significance of the day for the graduating students,
marking the culmination of their educational journey and the commencement of a
new chapter as responsible citizens in shaping the future of Bangladesh.
Dr. Ali reminded the audience of the sacrifices and
leadership of Bangladesh's founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
who played a pivotal role in the nation's independence. He reflected on his own
participation in the liberation war of 1971 and questioned whether enough had
been done to show gratitude to the great leader and the freedom fighters.
He also raised concerns about the dark events in
post-liberation Bangladesh, referencing the tragic night of August 15th, and
posed questions about the nation's delayed development. Dr. Ali emphasized the
importance of learning from the incomplete autobiography of Bangabandhu and the
actions of his eldest daughter, Sheikh Hasina, in building a "Smart
Bangladesh."
Dr. Ali urged the graduates to remember that they are the
torchbearers of Bangabandhu's legacy and commended Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
for her commitment to education, economic growth, democracy, and social
equality.
He reminded the graduates of the responsibility that comes
with their education and encouraged them to be enlightened graduates, embodying
wisdom, compassion, critical thinking, and a strong sense of social
responsibility. He also cautioned against corruption and the importance of
realistic expectations.
Dr. Ali highlighted the rapid evolution of the world and the
necessity of keeping pace through research and innovation. He mentioned
Bangladesh's groundbreaking impact in primary healthcare through the
"Sheikh Hasina Initiative," which is recognized by the United
Nations.
The speech concluded with Dr. Ali's call for the graduates
to work together in achieving a "Smart Bangladesh" and left them with
a powerful message: "DARKNESS CAN NOT REMOVE DARKNESS, ONLY LIGHT CAN
REMOVE DARKNESS, AND YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF BANGLADESH."
The speech was met with enthusiasm and applause from the convocation attendees, and Dr. Syed Modasser Ali received appreciation for his thought-provoking and inspiring words. The event marked a significant moment in the lives of the University of South Asia's graduating class as they embark on their journey as responsible citizens dedicated to the development of their nation.
