It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the health care of the people. After the return of the father of the nation to the country in 1972, plans were initiated to organize and establish a healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level for the provision of healthcare services to all the people of Bangladesh. In just over three years of leadership, the visionary planning, development, and initiatives undertaken by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in this country, especially in reaching healthcare to the remote areas, are truly remarkable. The establishment of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) by the founding father aimed to advance and coordinate various research programs in medical science. The emphasis was on developing and implementing training for the proper management of medical research and recommending necessary steps based on research outcomes. There is no alternative to medical research for the development of healthcare services. If there was no research in medical science, the world would have been deserted by now. Despite the onslaught of epidemics claiming numerous lives, humanity has triumphed over diseases. Through the means of science and research, lethal diseases have been subdued, and mankind has advanced.

The improvement of healthcare services in Bangladesh has led to advancements in almost all health indicators. For example, there has been a reduction in maternal mortality rates and child mortality rates, and a significant expansion in the coverage of vaccination programs. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been awarded the 'Vaccine Hero' award for her efforts in this regard. Bangabandhu aspired to take Bangladesh's healthcare to global heights, but medical research faced setbacks after the brutal assassination of the father of the nation on August 15, 1975. Our dreams come to a halt, our journey falters, and the significance of research were lost. BMRC became a nameless institution. In 1996, after a gap of 21 years, under the leadership of the philosophical statesperson the daughter of Bangabandhu's Sheikh Hasina, the journey of medical research began. Sheikh Hasina emphasizes the importance of medical research, stating, "There is no alternative to medical research; it must be given the highest priority for the development of healthcare." This statement of Sheikh Hasina exemplifies how deeply she felt about advancing medical research to contribute to the expansion of healthcare. She promptly took steps to enhance research, pushing forward the work of research to the forefront.

After becoming Prime Minister for the second time in 2008, she took the multifaceted initiatives for research. The present BMRC building has been constructed under the initiative of the Honorable Prime Minister. Bangmata National Cellular and Molecular Research Center has been created for basic research in medical research with the active support of the philosophical statesman Sheikh Hasina. We hope that it will play a significant role in medical research in Bangladesh. To see the fruits of the ongoing research under the leadership of BMRSC, we may have to wait a few more days. Bangladesh has made significant strides in medical research on the global stage. Multidisciplinary, multidimensional research is being led by BMRC. If we want to maintain the continuity of this research, there is no alternative to Sheikh Hasina for us. Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, we can further progress with the contribution of BMRC.
