The honorable Prime Minister has emphasized on ensuring healthcare services for everyone and has also given importance to medical research. Following the independence, the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, established the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) in 1972. As per government regulations, it serves as the focal point for medical research. In line with the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we, the workers, are committed to advancing medical research. Identifying research areas crucial for Bangladesh currently and in the near future, based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the World Health Organization, and allocating funds for medical research in priority fields are of utmost importance.

In the field of medical research, it is crucial for specialized hospitals and medical colleges to advance further. Initiatives such as fellowships and grant programs to encourage postgraduate students in research need to be enhanced. BMRC (Bangladesh Medical Research Council) has taken effective steps to make fellowship and grant programs more dynamic for the innovation of new branches and skills in science. Countries that invest more in research tend to gain rapid progress and prosperity by applying their discoveries and innovative capabilities. There is no alternative to a nation's own innovation or research for economic and social development. In this regard, BMRC plays a significant role in taking the lead. Engaging in innovative research, publishing research outcomes, achieving successful results, and incorporating research findings into health policies contribute significantly to the overall development of the country. Working on innovative research, publishing research results, achieving successful outcomes, and incorporating them into health policies can have a profound impact on the overall development of the country. BMRC is actively involved in these areas, contributing to the nation's progress.

In accordance with the directives of the Honorable Prime Minister to promote research among healthcare professionals, BMRC (Bangladesh Medical Research Council) has established the first and only regional research center in Gopalganj, named Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute under the banner of Bangamata. In order to enhance its capabilities, various programs, including research methodologies courses and research grants for young physicians and researchers in South Bengal, have been initiated. Initiating collaborative international efforts in medical research will open up further opportunities for research in the country. In this regard, we see a ray of hope. Saima Wazed, a world-renowned mental health specialist, the daughter of the Honorable Prime Minister and the grand-daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu has been selected as the Regional Director of the World Health Organization's South-East Asia Region. Through this, a new gateway will be opened for healthcare and medical research in the countries of South-East Asia, including Bangladesh. With the visionary guidance of the esteemed Prime Minister, a goal has been set to establish an advanced, prosperous, and smart Bangladesh. In light of this vision, the Bangladesh Medical Research Council is emerging as a national body for medical science research, aiming to bring together all government and non-government medical colleges, medical universities, research centers, hospitals, and institutions related to medical research. This collaboration will lead to success in international research and healthcare at a global level.
