Bangladesh reports first case of Omicron

The new variant of Coronavirus Omicron has been identified in Bangladesh. Two people have been infected with the new strain of the virus.

ASM Alamgir, chief scientific officer of IEDCR, confirmed the matter on Saturday (December 11) at noon.

The highly contagious omicron variant was first identified in South Africa, but the virus is weaker than the delta strain, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Omicron can easily infect the infected people or people who have been vaccinated with previous strains of the virus, the agency said. However, the effects of this infection are mild.

On November 24, for the first time in South Africa, a patient with Omicron was diagnosed. After that, it spread to different countries of the world. An expert called the variant B1.1.529, the first identified corona in South Africa, "the most terrifying of all time."
