Abu Hurira of Protidiner Sangbad and Mutashim Billah Pappu of Daily Samakal have respectively been elected as President and General Secretary of Islamic University Press Club.

The election was held at the Press Corner adjacent to the university’s Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium around 10:30am on Monday.

IU Acting Controller of examinations AK Azad Lavlu conducted the election as the chief election commissioner while Altaf Hossain, associate Prof of Al-Fiqh and legal studies department and Kanon Aziz, former president of the club were the assistant election commissioners in the polls.

After the election, IU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof M Mahbubur Rahman, formally, announced the result as chief guest while acting registrar H M Ali Hasan, transport administrator Prof Anowar Hossain and student advisor Prof Shelina Nasrin of the university were present as the special guests.

The other office bearers of the committee are- Rumi Noman of Jago News and Ahsan Naim of Ekushey Television as vice president, Mahbub Alam Rayhan of Bhorer Kagoj as joint secretary, Munjurul Islam Nahid of Kaler Kantho as an office secretary, Adil Sarkar of Shomoyer Alo as treasurer, Rakib Hosen Redowan of Bangladesh Pratidin as publicity, publication and literature secretary, and Azaharul Islam of Janakantha as sports-culture secretary, Sarkar Masum of Jugantor, Tarikul Islam of Bangla News 24, Nur Alam of Ekattor Post, Abir Hossain of CampusLive24 and Nazmul Hussain of Bangla Tribune as executive members.

The Students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway on Sunday as part of a nationwide ‘Bangla Blockade’ program demanding reforms in the quota system.

The students blocked the road around 11:30am, causing a 10-kilometer tailback on both sides of the highway.

Earlier, at around 11 am, the students gathered in front of the university’s Mrityunjayee Mujib Mural. They then marched around the campus and blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway in front of the University’s main gate.

During the blockade, the students placed tree logs on the road and set them on fire to stop traffic. They also played football, sang songs, recited poems and performed various cultural activities on the highway.

The students said, ‘We have come out on the streets to implement the Bangla Blockade program that was announced nationwide to demand reforms in the quota system.’’ They vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met.

Public Administration Day-2023 was celebrated at Islamic University in Kushtia on Wednesday amid festivity and much enthusiasm. 

Celebrating the day, IU Public Administration department brought out a colorful procession from in front of the Mir Mosharraf Hossain academic building of the university around 11:00 am. After parading the main streets of the campus, the procession ended at the Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Central Auditorium of the university. Later, a discussion programme was held there.

IU pro-vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman addressed the event as chief guest. Professor Dr M Lutfor Rahman, chairman of the department presided over the program while treasurer Prof Dr M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya and Social Sciences faculty dean Prof Dr AKM Motinur Rahman attended as the special guests. 

Shammy Akter and Ashek-e-Khoda jointly conducted the event while Prof Dr Fakrul Islam, convener of the Public Administration day celebration committee, delivered the welcome speech. Proctor Prof Shahadat Hossain Azad, Prof Begum Rokshana Mili, Prof Mohammad Selim, Prof Zulfiquar Hossain and Prof Gias Uddin were present here, among others. Around two hundred students from various sessions of the department took part here.

At the beginning of the programme, Chairman awards were given to meritorious students for achieving outstanding results. Later, a cultural function was held participated by the students of the department.

A day-long PhD seminar titled “Violence against women in Dhaka city: A socio-legal study” was held at Islamic University in Kushtia on Tuesday. IU Law department arranged the seminar at the conference room of the Law faculty around 11:30 am.

Professor Dr M Selim Toha, former treasurer of the university addressed the seminar as the chief guest chaired by Professor Dr Reba Mondol, chairman of the department.

The fellow, Md Abdul Aziz Miah presented his article at the event under the supervision of Dr Reba Mondol. The researcher focused on the causes and impacts of the violence against women in Dhaka City and shed lights the ways to combat the violence.

Professor Dr Nurun Nahar, Professor Dr Anisur Rahman, associate professor Dr M Abdul Karim Khan spoke here as the discussants while Public Administration department chairman Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Al-fiqh and Legal Studies department chairman Dr M Nasir Uddin, law department professor Dr M Shahjahan Mondol and Law and land management department chairman Shahida Akhtar participated at the seminar.

More than 5o teachers and officials of different departments of the university attended here.

A total of 42 students from different departments of Islamic University in Kushtia have been selected for the National Science and Technology (NST) fellowship for the academic session of 2022-23. The fellowship is given by the Ministry of Science and Technology for research.

Each selected student will get Tk 54,000 as financial support for conducting research projects under the fellowship programme, IU acting registrar HM Ali Hasan said on Monday.

Among them, twenty-nine students from the biotechnology and genetic engineering department, six from applied chemistry and chemical engineering, three students from mathematics, two students from the electrical and electronic engineering department and one each from the statistics and applied nutrition and food technology departments have been selected for the fellowship, he added.

A four-day Mobile Filmmaking workshop is going to be jointly organized by the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIMFF) and the Science Film Festival starting on December 23. 

The workshop is open to students in grades six through twelve from any educational institution. After hands-on training, students will make films on the theme of "Equal Rights in Science" at this girls-only event.

The workshop will be held on December 23, 24, 30, and 31 at the Permanent Campus of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Goethe Institute Bangladesh is the subsidiary of the workshop. Registration for this free workshop has begun and will end on December 15th. Students cannot register directly for this workshop.
